Quadrants display in Astrometrics
The Alpha Quadrant is one of the four quadrants of the galaxy, and the bulk of the United Federation of Planets is located in that quadrant. Other powers such as the Cardassians and the Ferengi are located in the Alpha Quadrant. Usually, for simplicity's sake, when a Federation member is speaking he or she will say 'the Alpha Quadrant' rather than referring to both the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. For example, 'The Dominion tried to envade the Alpha Quadrant.'
