Andorians are a race of humanoids from the planet Andoria (or 'Andor' -- the terms are used interchangeably). Due to the harsh, cold, predatory living conditions in which they evolved, Andorians developed many physical traits to adapt, and are not technically mammalian humanoids, being more properly referred to by the taxonomic classification of 'ghelnoids' much like humans are 'higher primates'. Andorians have redundant circulatory systems which limit frostbite, exhaustion, and similar health-threatening conditions, making them hardier than humans. They also have fluid-filled antennae stalks rising from their foreheads which sensitize them to sound and other vibratory patterns. As a social counterpart to their physical adaptations, Andorians have adopted communal lifestyles -- living in lodges rather than private quarters, and marrying in 'quads' of four co-spouses -- and tend to channel their aggressive tendencies through ritualized dueling and Starfleet or local militia service.
