The Ashanti-class Heavy Frigate is the 'younger sister' of the Constitution-class, built along similar lines but with stripped out science resources and stronger weaponry (though the current generation, refit Constitution now equals it in firepower), to serve specifically for anchoring big or important defensive lines. It first was produced in 2267 with its prototype, with half a dozen ships of the class in existence by the early 2270s and currently about 15 or so in active service as of 2279
