First Contact

First Contact is the term for the first official meeting between two peoples, usually perpetrated by officials of those peoples. The Federation, which conducts First Contact situations through the Starfleet Diplomatic Corps, the First Contact Division, and the civilian Federation Diplomatic Corps, operates under strict regulations involving such situations, most notably the Prime Directive. Some species' policies differ from this methodology.
