Gamma Quadrant

The Gamma Quadrant comprises one quarter of the Milky Way galaxy, and normally is far outside of the range of Federation starships. In 2369 crew from Deep Space 9 discovered the first stable wormhole, which ran from the Bajor sector, crossed 70,000 light years, and exited deep in the Gamma Quadrant in the Idran Sector. Recently, with the end of the Dominion War hostilities, exploration has resumed in the Gamma Quadrant. Starfleet has begun the work to construct the first permanent outpost in the Gamma Quadrant, Outpost Gamma One.
