In the case of any discrepancy between the news files on the game and those here on the wiki, the news files on the game are correct version.
Character generation is the process where a new player will create a character for the game. A new character will type '+chargen' to begin. From there the process will be:
- Complete your first application by doing the following:
- Complete the basic information about the character.
- Choose your race and branch and/or occupation.
- Based on item B, select your race and branch/occupation skills.
- Spend your development points to flesh out your character.
- Complete your targeted background questions.
- Complete your service record, +info and select your renown.
- Submit your application.
- Staff will review your application. If approved, the process is complete. If there are concerns, the application will be 'denied' and you will receive @mail with information about the changes needed.
- If you need to change your stats:
- If there are 1 or 2 minor changes, you can +request staff to make those changes.
- If you need to make major changes, restart the stats portion with '+cg/reset'. This will not change your BG, service record or +info, only your stats.
- If you need to change information:
- Complete your changes. If you do not need to change stats, you do not need to restart chargen.
- Submit your new application.
Always watch for @mail. Approvals or denials will be @mailed to you.
Remember that the point of game play is to progress and develop a PC from beyond his starting limitations. It is, therefore, a bad idea to start your character off at the absolute best he can be in his field unless you plan for the character to grow in other respects.
Don't load up on all possible combat abilities, or put high skills in them all. Try to pick one or two, tops, and place a handful of points between them. If you *must* be excellent at a combat skill, try to find a concept which allows you to specialize in a single blade, sidearm, or unarmed combat style.
Remember that having more than 1 pt in most skills, even in the comparative utopia of the UFP Core Worlds, where most characters were educated and where free time and elective education abound, will require justification beyond "I've always been interested in XYZ." Most of us are adult and intelligent enough to admit that we're interested in things we've never studied enough to do *well*. "Being interested" in a skill might earn you your first level of skill, but going beyond that will need more of an investment for your PC, which means it requires more of an investment by you, the player.
