News Files:Contests (Rolls)
From Star Trek: Gamma One
In the case of any discrepancy between the news files on the game and those here on the wiki, the news files on the game are correct version.
Star Trek: Gamma one uses the Last Unicorn Star Trek RPG system.
Rolls will use, by default, the base attribute and edge for the skill you are contesting with. You can do '+info <skill>' to see the default attribute and edge. This total will represent the number of dice being rolled.
The dice, d6s, are rolled and the highest number is taken and added to the skill and specialty. The total represents the roll. If the drama die (when using +roll the first die in brackets/the red die) rolls a six, then it is added to the next highest, and that subtotal is added to the skill and specialty.
If the roll succeeds by 6 or more, then it is a possible dramatic success. The Writer will determine that. If all die rolled come up 1, then it is a possible dramatic failure, and again the Writer will determine the result. If you are rolling without a Writer present, then a dramatic success and dramatic failure are regular rolls unless you are following guidelines. For example, the certification materials cover how to treat a DS or DF roll.
Merits and Flaws can add a positive or negative modifier, meaning more or less dice are rolled.
If you fail by four points or less (IE, the difficulty was 10 and you rolled 6 or higher) then you can spend up to four courage points to change the result. Each courage point is equal to one additional point on the roll.
