News Files:Holodecks
From Star Trek: Gamma One
In the case of any discrepancy between the news files on the game and those here on the wiki, the news files on the game are correct version.
Rather than keep silent about this and allow bad precedent to stack up, your writing staff has determined to note from day one the following:
- You cannot be injured in proper solo use of a holodeck.
This is an absolute. Unless there is a malfunction in the holodeck, safeties and force fields prevent injury by a person who is interacting solely with the program. The only ways to be injured in a holodeck are if a) the holodeck malfunctions or b) another sentient being injures you with direct force, be it deliberate or accidental. By 'direct force,', it should be noted that the literal meaning is there intended. If you are jogging with Klingon Exchange Officer K'mpal and he punches you in the back of the head as he passes, *that* can injure you. If he merely shoves you sprawling, however, holodeck force fields will prevent you from taking injury.
Your writing staff also wants to note the following:
- You cannot decide for yourself that the holodeck has malfunctioned.
Violating this policy is tantamount to assuming writing powers for yourself, and mandating that the engineers and operations crew responsible for the holodeck did a lousy job this week. If you were a medical officer, we would not let them decide you committed malpractice on their own volition; this courtesy must be a two-way street.
