News Files:IC Conduct
From Star Trek: Gamma One
In the case of any discrepancy between the news files on the game and those here on the wiki, the news files on the game are correct version.
While Standard Operating Procedures and Policies (collectively, SOP (see '+SOP')) address specific situations and requirements of behavior, the following should be taken as a general guideline:
- Behave with respect.
- Keep the angst in small, private scenes, and as much away from duty RP as possible.
Remember that your PCs are, for the most part, 24th century paramilitary officers in a particular paramilitary service that prides itself on sensitivity, multiculturalism, paternal concern for its officers, and exacting standards. This is not the World of Darkness, nor the Marvel Superverse, nor the Anitaverse, nor the Buffyverse, nor the 'verse of Joss Whedon's Serenity ... nor, for that matter, the military fleet of the revised Battlestar Galactica -- your PCs are well-trained, well-adjusted, well-monitored and working for an employer that has the best-trained medical doctors and mental health counselors available. Those of you who enjoy playing sad sacks who act like surly loners on duty should likely consider another game -- surly loners and sad sacks rarely make it out of the Academy, and when they do, they are still few and far between. If your IC SO dumps you, letting off a little steam for a few days is acceptable -- moping for weeks, trying your damnedest to get drunk, and mouthing off to the XO who catches you at it is *not* acceptable and you should expect repercussions from it. In general, remember that if you start to behave like a petulant, spoiled child or an idiot, you will be called on the carpet.
Also, this is not the United States Military. Do not assume the rules for conduct or punishment are the same. They are not.
