News Files:Sparring
From Star Trek: Gamma One
In the case of any discrepancy between the news files on the game and those here on the wiki, the news files on the game are correct version.
Players may wish to practice unarmed combat on their own through sparring. This is allowed as long as you follow these guidelines:
- The attacker rolls Unarmed Combat/<specialty>. The defender rolls (usually) Dodge. The highest roll wins that round. Courage may be spent to counter a higher roll.
- Sparring must occur using protective head gear, gloves and body pads. This reflects the inherit safety of sparring. All officers learn to spar safely as to not harm each other.
- Even with a 'dramatic success' or 'dramatic failure' type roll, where one person rolls 6 points higher than the other, injuries do not occur. People are trained how to spar safely, so that there is a margin for error before injuries occur. If you RP receiving more than a light bruise during sparring then you are also RPing that you choose not to spar safely. As such you may be open to IC repercussions.
Note from Halmar: Our goal with the above is not to be draconian, but rather realistic. Speaking as someone who did martial training and sparring, the first thing you learn is safety. Injury after injury should not be occurring.
