News Files:XP Spending

In the case of any discrepancy between the news files on the game and those here on the wiki, the news files on the game are correct version.
WARNING: Please note that it is possible to waste XP when buying skills and specialties. Read this entire news topic so that you understand how the system works.
XP can be spent by going to the OOC Lounge and then entering the XP Room. You can spend any of the XP in your pool. Upgraded skills are available immediately for you to use with no delays/lag in them being added to your +sheet.
The cost of upgrades are listed in the '+info xp costs' info file.
Attributes may be raised up to the maximum level for your race. In most cases attributes can be raised to 5, but in some cases may only be raised to 4 or up to 6. Looking at '+info <race>' will show you the maximum levels for that race's attributes.
Edges may be raised up +2. There are no restrictions or racial limitations on the raising of an Edge. The only limitation would be access to the PSI attribute. If you do not have access to the Psi attribute you can not adjust the Psi specialties.
Courage may be upgraded, giving you additional courage points to spend on rolls.
Skills and Specialties are upgraded seperately, allowing for a skill and/or a specialty to be raised to 5. However the +roll command will only use a total or 6 skill/specialty points. This means that you want to be careful when upgrading skills and specialties. If you upgrade Shipboard Systems to level 5 and then upgrade the Flight Control specialty to level 5, you will have wasted XP.
Bear in mind that upgrading specialties is cheaper than skills, and a good way to reflect training in one specialty of a skill in a cost effective manner. For example, let's say that your character trains only with the Type I and Type II phasers, to be competent shot when called upon, but your character does not train with phaser rifles or study or use other weapons. You could level Energy Weapons at level 1, and upgrade just the Phaser specialty to leve 3, meaning you have a 4 when rolling Energy Weapons/Phaser and 1 when making any other Energy Weapons rolls.
Staff recommend that you consider this and plan your upgrades appropriately. If XP is wasted by poor purchases, it is unlikely that staff will refund it, so please understand the system before buying upgrades.
In some cases a player may, due to billet requirements or XP Spending, be ina situation where they have 'wasted points' on their sheet. There is no coded system in place to sell back those stats.
Staff, however, may review the situation on a case by case basis and determine if the player can sell back their wasted points. If you wish to ask staff to consider this, please submit a +request with details.
