A PADD (Personal Access Display Device) is powerful hand held computer, used for personal work and writing tasks and as a mobile access device. PADDs are equipped with a simple transceiver that allows communication with other devices (generally the main computer of the starbase or starship to which the user is assigned). Due to the limited processing power available in the handheld size, the ability of a PADD to replicate the function of a dedicated console is severely limited.
