The photon-torpedo is a self-propelled, internally guided missile utilized by Starfleet vessels. Destructive power is provided by combination of 1.5kg of matter with 1.5kg of antimatter, producing an explosive yield of 25 isotons. Use at extremely close range may result in damage to the firing vessel if it is caught within the radius of the explosion. Unlike energy-based weapons, the photon torpedo may be used at warp velocities. Though technically rendered obsolete with the introduction of the Quantum torpedo, the photon torpedo is likely to remain in service for several more years, while fleet-wide deployment of the quantum torpedo takes place.
