From Star Trek: Gamma One
Rapier, along with Halmar, is one of the two founders of Star Trek: Gamma One, and with Halmar's retirement in early 2008 has continued as the game's sole Head Admin. He handles plot, setting, and theme -- in this capacity, he settles continuity issues, reconciles those questions of Treknology which might spoil plotlines if left unchecked, and makes final approval on special character concepts. He portrays the character of Vice Admiral Robert Tran Tho of Outpost Gamma One as a long-term/permanent NPC, brings Captain Andrus Kale of USS Vanguard and the disgraced Captain Ian Roshak onscreen for the occasional plot, and will likely portray others on a more-than-one-shot-but-still-short-term-basis as time marches on.
More seriously, Benjamin 'Rapier' Pollack is a long-time geek, from back before geek was chic. He is in his very early 40s, holds an undergraduate degree in history from New York University, did some aborted grad work in journalism, literature, and history at the University of Florida in the early 90s, and has spent about 11 years of the last 16 working as an IT professional, with breaks in-between to play at being a pharmacy technician, a child support collector for the Florida Department of Revenue, and a no-account long-haired hippie bum collecting unemployment while studying for his MCDBA certification. Now that his life is more stable, and his hair is gone, Ben continues to live in South Florida, where he works as an operations reseacher, data analyst, and all around SQL guru for a regional workforce board. He is about to enroll in some formal coursework in the development and programming side of database operations on his employer's dime, if all goes well, and then plans to make another try at a real graduate degree Any Day Now.
