SACOM

The Starfleet Academy College of Medicine is the intense training program for those who wish to earn their medical doctorate (M.D.). Cadets transfer into SACOM after their second year of general officer education core and complete the academic requirements of the medical field in which they are studying. The academic curriculum takes four years to complete. This is in addition to the two years of the basic officer coursework.

During the cadet cruise, cadets at SACOM serve as medical corpsmen. Upon successful completion of all academic requirements and the cadet cruise, they are commissioned with the rank of Ensign and awarded the Bachelor of Medical Science. The officer then completes a two year internship and medical residency before the M.D. degree is conferred.
