Sector 001

Sector 001 is one of the most important sectors in the United Federation of Planets. The label of "sector one" was originally applied because this system was the first to be explored by Humans. Today, it is still referred to as Sector 001 because it is the governmental headquarters of the Federation. Because of its importance in the Federation, it is a heavily defended system. Federation starships, Jupiter Station, the Mars Defense Perimeter, and Earth Spacedock are capable of providing significant defenses for the system.

In 2273, Sector 001's defenses were penetrated and Earth itself was threatened by the V'ger probe, until the crisis was successfully resolved by the USS Enterprise.
