Self-replicating Mine

The self-replicating mine is a defensive explosive device, originally developed for the defense of Deep Space 9 during the Dominion War. The mines contain, in addition to a proximity detonation trigger and explosive payload, a replicator unit capable of recreating a destroyed neighbor utilizing whatever material happened to be nearly (including that from previously exploded mines and debris from vessels damaged by the field). Additionally, self-replicating mines contain a miniaturized cloaking device, which when combined with their small size renders them extremely difficult to detect. Due to the addition of the cloak and replication unit, payload on a self-replicating mine is small compared to traditional designs. This is compensated for by programming the mines to swarm-detonate.

A shuttle from USS Marathon was briefly thought lost after the accidental activation of a self-replicating mine aboard on stardate 56552.2 (Beyond All Recognition)
