Starfleet Corps of Engineers

The Starfleet Corps of Engineers is that branch within Starfleet that reports to the Office of the Chief of Starfleet Engineering. The commanding officer of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers is a Starfleet flag officer, typically carrying the rank of Rear Admiral (lower half) or higher. The Corps of Engineers is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all Federation installations and starships.

In practical terms all members of the Engineering Branch on a vessel or installation are typically referred to as 'Engineers' or the 'Engineering Branch,' However all of those engineers are also members of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers.
