Starfleet Intelligence

From Star Trek: Gamma One

Starfleet Intelligence is a division within Starfleet that is tasked with collecting intelligence through human sources and by other appropriate means. These include analyzing, conduct counterintelligence, other special activities relating to foreign intelligence and Federation security, and disseminating information on other foreign powers.

Officers may pursue training while at the Academy in this field, or they may be selected out of another branch to transfer into the intelligence field. Those who transfer in after receive intensive training at that time.
