Starfleet values ongoing training as officers work to enhance their skills and abilities. Much of this training occurs in skills for an officer's own branch, but some of it is cross-training, command training, and so on. Below are some of the formal training options available to Starfleet Officers.
Starfleet regularly tests its officer for competency using a process known as the Officer Evaluation Review. This process exists both for testing if an officer is ready to promote and testing to see if an officer is maintaining his or her skillset.
