USS Boston is a Miranda-class cruiser commissioned in 2276. After shakedown, her initial charge was to oversee the construction of deep space stations near the Typhon Expanse beyond the far border of Romulan space. The Boston is regarded as one of the most successful Miranda-class starships to date, credited with establishing two deep space stations, cataloguing 27 spatial anomalies, charting, 300-square light-years of space, completing extensive cultural observations on two pre-warp civilizations, and discovering an unclaimed planetoid that has become a key source of deuterium.

During the three-year initial mission of the Boston, LT Xintas Kellim was assigned as Sciences Officer.
