Homeworld: Vulcan
Federation Member: Yes
Origin: Alpha Quadrant

One of the founding races of the Federation, the Vulcan people are angular humanoids with usually stark facial structures, pointed ears, high brows, and invisible nictating membranes which function as 'inner eyelids', protecting them from wind, sand, and harsh sunlight on their desert-like home planet. The starkness and bleakness of Vulcan (also called 'Vulcanis') and their own rich past as a warlike race which tamed its aggression in the crucible of the desert, gives Vulcans a rich culture which they only reveal to outsiders in glimpses of ritual -- because their tight discipline also reins in natural psychic sensitivities and superior physical strength, Vulcans tend to be very private, rather than sociable, and live by a code of logic and the restraint of emotion. It is important to note with regards to the latter that though Vulcans have been accused of being heartless machines, they do *feel* their own emotions -- their code only prevents them from displaying emotions or making judgments based on those emotions, rather than on cool, objective logic.
