Technology in the 24th century has advanced to the point where a planet's climate can be altered to a certain extent by a network of dedicated weather control satellites. In general, direct control of the weather is limited to dissipating dangerous climate conditions such as tornadoes and hurricanes, while normal weather patterns are left to develop on their own as beneficial for the planet's environment.

Surplus previous-generation weather control technology has been placed by the Bajorans for use in shaping a new set of potential colonies in the Draxil system in partnership with the Draxili. (From the Dead Man Zone).
